“Who would ever want to be King”
I am borrowing a line from the lyrics of Coldplay’s timely Viva La Vida. LISTEN
In light of the impending U.S. transfer of power Viva la Vida by COLDPLAY seems uniquely appropriate for my playlist this week.
No matter your politics, I believe most reasonable minds can agree that despite the boatload of challenges - virus, economy, education, joblessness, homelessness, hunger, climate change, immigration, global malaise, nuclear BS, growing factions of hate and more - faced by the incoming Biden-Harris Administration, there will also be opportunities for positive change and human advancement.
As wife, mother, NOW grandmother, colleague and friend, I must hold on to the promise of MARTIN LUTHER KING’S hopes for modern humanity while paddling through this Democratic experiment with all its flaws. Personally, I resolve to continue to work everyday to improve my own, what Harvard Professor, Philosopher and Intellectual Dr. Cornel West calls “willful ignorance.”
With the stories of my ancestors’ sacrifices, fights and triumphs top of mind, I find myself in a constant dichotomy of mourning and celebration. Their resilience however force me to join Dr. West in declaring “I refuse to be paralyzed by despair,” - despite the challenges.
I encourage you to do your part in helping to allay the tremendous challenges of the Pandemic which weigh heavily on frontline health care workers.. Vaccinations have begun. Authorities caution us to continue to safely social distance as best we can, wash our hands often, avoid large gatherings and wear a mask to protect family members, friends, co-workers and ourselves, and to help curb the spread of this pesky COVID virus which the world continues to battle.
